As a commitment to embracing cleaner technology, Prestige Chauffeurs has just invested in its first hybrid vehicle, a Volvo V90 B4. Whilst the car market remains in a difficult place, sadly fully electric vehicles are still not a realistic option for our industry outside of London, especially due to low range and poor infrastructure for charging points across the UK.
Having looked across the market for hybrid technology, the Volvo V90 B4 offered the best all-round package for client comfort, low emissions, range and cost. After just a week of chauffeuring clients in the V90, the feedback has been very positive, with clients noticing the improvements from this updated version of the V90.
Having previously operated Volvo’s over the years and the V90, the ride on the new V90 is higher, advancements in safety tech as standard as well as benefiting from an even smoother ride. Both our chauffeurs and clients are very impressed with this vehicle.
As for fuel consumption, the hybrid tech has seen a significant improvement in mpg around town and an uplift of around twenty five percent on a motorway, all with the added benefit of low emissions that meet ULEZ and Clean Air Zones around the UK.

The interior of the V90 in the rear benefits from more room for passengers than the Mercedes E Class, both width and leg room. The level of comfort is quite staggering, with clients rating the comfort higher than the Mercedes. Even after a long journey, either as a passenger or the chauffeur you don’t feel fatigued or stiff like some vehicles can make you feel.
Prestige Chauffeurs still provides clients with the option of Mercedes on our fleet, vehicles which are ideal for all occasions, but for those that have never been in a Volvo, you will become a fan after just one trip.
As we move forward in an ideal world electric would be our first choice, but issues with significantly lower real world ranges than stated ones, poor infrastructure outside of London for charging points and vast cost involved, sadly electric is not there yet for our industry outside of London or those doing very low mileage.
Our fleet is to be updated over the next two to three years and we hope technology will advance over this period making electric a real world alternative.
